Whether their interest lay in prose, poetry or drama, our course has been bespokely designed to give students the opportunity to discover their individual voices as young writers. We cover an array of themes and formats including personal writing, storytelling, poetry and manuscription. We have constructed this creative writing class to encourage new ideas and help students structure their thoughts effectively. By embracing a student centred approach, students are able to develop as independent writers and use a variety of writing strategies and techniques to help unlock their creative potential.
Together, we aspire to guide students to fulfill their true potential through building an inclusive atmosphere that encourages creative expression and growth. We encourage self-expression to ignite a productive passion for writing beyond the boundaries, in effort to diversify their creative horizons and use words to build worlds.
Why we do it
While it may seem that creative writing is a path that only those interested in the liberal arts pursue, or people in writing careers need, the ability to write coherently and communicate effectively is important for any sector. Thus, it is a skill that few people choose to cultivate as it is considered a frivolous skill because its value is difficult to quantify. The importance of creative writing in developing children's cognitive and communication skills cannot be underestimated, as its impact extends beyond books.
An active involvement in fictional and non-fictional writing permits young writers to become inquisitive individuals. This type of questioning reveals new areas of intellectual and emotional capacity that allow students to experiment with various writing styles whilst maintaining factual accuracy and logical consistency. This is significant because creative writers ask us to believe in their dreams, a skill requiring attention, curiosity and discipline. Thus, writers need guidance to successfully bring readers’ into an alternative world and effectively blur the lines between reality and fantasy.
Through mastering these advance skills this course would allow students to develop academic, social and emotional intelligence that would compliment a range of careers and avenues of employment. It provides students with the opportunity to become successful writers, compelling journalists, effective speakers, and accomplished professionals with the ability to transform our world.
